These prototypes are not intended to be produced but are considered “Reference Designs” which should serve as inspiration for manufacturers so that they take the quintessence of Intel processors. “They can use as many or as few of these models they want,” said Stephen Smith, vice president of Intel’s Technology Review.

Medfield is the latest variant of Atom processors for mobile. So far, these models did not affect the dominance of ARM processors, especially since they consume more energy performance equivalent. The cause of this loss was related to the design of the processor that incorporated several chips. Medfiled finally managed to combine the key functions in a single piece of silicon. This process, called system-on-a-chip, the heyday of ARM in smartphones and was the main handicap of Intel in this area. According to Tech Review tests, the performances are excellent, including a function that can capture 10 images in 8 megapixel full size in less than a second.
